Welcome to food craft ideas! Here I share the internet’s best food crafts. Search here for party ideas, holiday ideas, gift ideas, kid-friendly ideas, adult-friendly ideas, or just-for-fun ideas.
Who I am. My name is Meaghan. I am the blogger behind the decorated cookie. I’ve been creating food crafts online since 2008. Before that I was a cookie decorator at a shop near Washington, DC (where I live) for almost a decade. I published my first cookie decorating book in 2007, but good luck finding it. My second book, all about food crafts, is Sugarlicious. If you’re just starting out, buy it, seriously. It has everything you need to know about fun food crafts. And I get a few cents. For five years I was the Edible Crafts editor at CraftGossip.com, during which time cake pops were discovered and soared to popularity, pie pops became a thing, and cookie decorators were perfecting their craft. Thousands of posts later, I had a pretty gosh darn firm grasp on food craft trends.
What a “food craft” is. To me, a food craft is simply a clever manipulation of food. So I may post on cookies that look like horses, marshmallows dipped in Kool-Aid (I came up with that, plug plug), pretzels turned into farm animals, or even homemade Twinkies with a sprinkle twist. Some may argue that all baking and cooking is a manipulation of food and equally artistic. I don’t disagree. I’m just not posting those things. It’s gotta be clever.
How I share. As a content creator, I know how very, very hard it is to maintain control over our images and ideas. These images and ideas, by the way, are all protected by copyright. Just because it’s on the internet, does NOT make them free to all. Therefore, I will post one image with a direct link to the ORIGINAL source. Further, if I share an image on social media, I will NOT do so from my blog. (Unless I create a round-up, but then I’ll use my own images.) I will only share images from the ORIGINAL source. Let’s start a trend folks! Let’s not share food ideas on facebook or pinterest or instagram without finding the original source. Let’s visit these original sources and thank them for their awesomeness and creativity. And let’s share ONLY from the original source. And by the way, I’m sharing all of my own stuff with total abandon because it’s my blog and I can.
